Project description
This project is a women protection centre for women between 11 and 18 years old. This centre takes care of 14 women who are pregnant or already moms because of sexual abuse (and domestic violence) This centre does not only provide protection, but also supports in processing traumas and provides education.
The children who live in the centre are up to 4 years old. However, there is also a kindergarten with children between 6 and 12 years old. This is an extra service for the women who have lived there before and who are usually between 20 and 25 years old.
Project Profile
- Minimum stay: 4 weeks
- Working hours: Monday to Friday from 8am until 4pm
- Spanish: Intermediate/Advanced
- Donation: $150 once
Volunteering and Internship
Although this project is considered to be for students doing their internship, it is also possible to volunteer at this project. Take into account that this project is 8 hours a day, and requires a certain level of professionalism.
Tasks
- Rotate through the centre: Support in the kitchen and in the school
- Support in cleaning and in making homework, teaching English, and supervising the children at the kindergarten
- Specialise in a specific area (dependent on your study): Work closely together with the nurses or teach English (or another course) to the moms and at the kindergarten
Professions
They have several professionals in Education, Health, Social Work, and Nursing. As an intern, you will rotate through the centre, this includes helping in the kitchen, cleaning, teaching English, supervising children and more. Dependent on your study/ field of interest, you can specialise in a specific area. You will for example work at the kindergarten, teach English, or assist the nurses.
